Accurate, timely and relevant information is the most valuable weapon for fighting crime and protecting the public. For decades, police, fire and emergency medical services agencies have relied on mobile data communication and in-vehicle terminals to increase their effectiveness and save lives. Responders receive and acknowledge dispatch notices and event reports; report incidents, location and status back to the dispatcher; and enter person, vehicle and other queries – all through their in-vehicle laptops.

Improved Productivity
With cellular networks and sophisticated smartphones, like BlackBerry, the benefits of data communications can now be extended to officers on the street, on motorcycles, horseback and watercraft - essential for Community Policing.
Numerous pilot projects have demonstrated substantial increases in officer productivity and effectiveness. In an early pilot by North Wales Police, BlackBerry devices were deployed to 300 officers. They determined that substantial cost saving accrued due to increased productivity, over and above the important benefits of officer safety and enhanced crime prevention. Since then, thousands of BlackBerry smartphones have been deployed across a number of police forces in the UK. Despite these positive results, most of these deployments have been limited to basic queries, issuing citations and simple report entry – missing the benefits of silent dispatch and full integration.
